Your Pathway to Becoming an SSI Instructor

Prerequisite Courses

Prerequisites may include:

• Open Water Diver
• React Right First Aid and CPR
• Diver Stress and Rescue
• Science of Diving
• EAN/Nitrox
• Deep Diving
• Or equivalent certification or applicable logged dive experience.
• Night and Limited Visibility Diving
• Or equivalent certification or applicable logged dive experience.
• Navigation
• Or equivalent certification or applicable logged dive experience.

Additional prerequisites may apply depending on the professional training pathway and applicable SSI requirements.

Professional Training

Professional training may include:

• Divemaster: Professional-level training designed to develop leadership and dive-management skills.
• Assistant Instructor (AI): Develop teaching and instructional-support skills.
• Instructor Training Course (ITC): Advanced professional training focused on becoming a scuba instructor.
• Combined AI/ITC: A pathway combining Assistant Instructor and Instructor Training Course requirements.
• Instructor Exam (IE): Professional examination following completion of the applicable instructor training.
• Specialty Instructor Courses: Continue developing your professional qualifications by adding specialty-level teaching credentials.
